User guide and FAQ
What is HEXAguide for?
Your hexapod frame corrects the bone little by little, lengthening or shortening its 6 struts a few millimeters a day. Your doctor plans the correction in the frame's software, and that plan (the schedule) says what each strut must read every day.
HEXAguide shows you only what applies today, so you don't have to look for your row on a printed sheet. It also tells you how much has been corrected, how many days are left, and lets your doctor know whether you are up to date.
How to use it, step by step
Open the app. It always starts on today.
Choose Numbers or Clicks, depending on how you were taught to adjust. With Numbers, set each strut to the reading shown in its box. With Clicks, turn each strut the clicks shown (1 click = ¼ turn). If your doctor told you to adjust several times a day, the app splits the clicks by adjustment.
After adjusting each strut, tap Done in its box. If you adjusted all of them, you can use Mark all.
Use the ‹ › arrows to look at other days. Today takes you back to the current day. Future days can be viewed but not marked.
Further down you will find the correction progress, the 3D model and the chart of each strut's readings. They are for information only: the real check is the X-ray your doctor orders.
What each part of the strut box means
1LB=4
157mm
+1 mm
Mark done
6LB=8MB=2
169mm
+1 mm
Mark done
1
Strut number. Each strut has its own color, the same in the box, the chart and the 3D model.
L
Strut size: L (long), M (medium), S (short) or XS (extra short).
B=4
B scale. It is the coarse setting of the strut length: it defines the range the strut works in. Each day's A reading is measured on top of that setting, so when B changes, the A numbers change too. Only your doctor changes the B scale. Do not touch it.
157
A scale reading, in millimeters. It is the number the strut must read when today's adjustment is finished.
+1 mm
How much it changes compared with yesterday. If it says “No change”, do not touch that strut today.
B=2
The new setting (bottom row, white background). It appears when the B scale must be changed or the strut must be replaced with one of another size. Your doctor makes that change. Once it is done, tap the new setting to record it: it moves to the top row and the A reading updates by itself.
Why is a box shaded?
Because that strut is in an adjustment window: it is reaching the end of its travel, and its B scale must be changed or it must be replaced with a strut of another size. The new setting appears below (for example “M” and “B=2”).
The window lasts a few days and the change can be made on any of them. Only your doctor changes the B scale or the strut: arrange a visit with them within the window. When it is done, tap the new setting to record it. If you made a mistake, tap the top setting twice to undo it (only while the window lasts).
Why is a number red?
Red number: it is the last day that strut can go on without the pending adjustment. Tomorrow it reaches its limit. If your doctor has not made the adjustment yet, let them know today.
Box with a red border and a dash (—): the window has ended and the change was not recorded. Do not turn that strut. If the change was made, tap the new setting to record it; if not, contact your doctor.
What if I fall behind one day?
Days you do not mark as done stay pending, and your doctor sees them as late on their panel. You can go back to that day with the ‹ arrow and mark it, if you did make the adjustment and only forgot to mark it.
If you really did not make the adjustment, do not do two days at once. Tell your doctor: they will tell you how to continue. Meanwhile, carry on with today's adjustment.
What if a strut does not read what the app says?
Use the Mismatched struts button. Select the strut and enter the reading it shows now, before today's adjustment. The app compares it with what it should read:
5 mm difference or less: set it to the number shown today.
More than 5 mm and up to 40 mm: the app spreads the difference over 7 days, so it is not abrupt. On those days the box says “catching up”.
More than 40 mm: do not adjust that strut and contact your doctor.
Your doctor sees on their panel that a strut was mismatched. If you entered it by mistake, you can cancel it from the same button.
How do I keep the app on my phone?
This way it opens like any other app, with its own icon, without looking for the link. Do it with the link or QR code your doctor gave you, so it keeps your plan.
iPhone (Safari)
Open the QR link in Safari.
Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up). If you do not see it, tap ··· and then Share.
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
Android (Chrome)
Open the QR link in Chrome.
Tap the ⋮ menu (top right).
Tap Install app or Add to Home screen, and confirm.
From then on, always open the app from the HEXAguide icon. For your doctor to see your marks, the phone needs to connect to the internet from time to time; without signal the app still works and sends the marks later.
Other questions
Can I adjust by numbers one day and by clicks another? Yes, but do not mix them on the same day. The safest is to choose one way and stick to it.
I have two frames, or two blocks on the same leg. At the top, under your name, there are buttons to choose the program: RIGHT / LEFT or UPPER / LOWER. Each program has its own numbers: make and mark the adjustments of each one separately.
I tapped “Done” by mistake. Tap it again and it is unmarked.
What do I do when the correction ends? Leave the struts at the last reading until your check-up with your doctor.
Who sees my data? Your plan travels encrypted with the key in your QR code. The server only stores which days you marked, so your doctor knows whether you are up to date.
If you have severe pain, numbness, fever, discharge around the pins or doubts about a reading, do not adjust and contact your care team.
